Default boost question WRX 95

The story is I bought a Jap Import WRX with a sick motor. Now the motor has been replaced and is running fine, but I am a little wary cause the boost guage registers 1.2 BAR (about 17.4 psi)
I have searched this site and there are loads of info about safe boost levels on stock engines but need advice on this.
Being an import the history is vague but there seems to be an atmospheric bleed valve fitted to it, haven't checked ecu to see if its been chipped so presuming its standard for now.

What do you guys think - too much boost??? to be safe.
I noticed today that hard on the gas in second gear the car hit the fuel cut limit - only happened once.

your advice will be greatly appreciated

Too high for factory. Prob a chipped jap ECU or something. You need a remap or a Z4 ecu run on optimax to be safe or you will no doubt melt a piston sooner then later.

Stock boost for that motor is .89bar.
If there's an ECU upgrade in there from from Japan, chances are it will fubar your engine on UK fuel. Get some decent octane booster to be on the safe side until you can figure out what's been done to the car. Is it still using the original boost solenoid, or does it have an electronic or manual boost controller?
I bet it's a beast at 1.2bar....... :-)

Yeah goes great with 1.2 bar but this is being used as an everyday car so want it stay in one piece for as long as poss

how much boost can you safely run theough a <1996 classic? I have an ESL chip running 1.1bar with no problems (heard scoobyecu's run for well over 100k miles with these type maps). Could you run 1.4 bar without a quick death with a suitable map?

with the suitable mods to support the 1.4bar yes.. like enough fuel, not too much ignition and a better intercooler for starters.. most people running that much boost either have had it remapped and the supporting mods or are about to pay out for an engine rebuild

I would remove the boost controller or drop the boost down until you know it is mapped for that boost.. or get it checked with detcans and wideband to check for det and that the fuelling is correct.

your doing the right thing there....

All the superchip does is fit a bleed valve and raise the fuel cut. Your fuelling and ignition will be heading towards danger running 1.2bar.

Alot of early cars will det at 1.1bar running the standard Z4 ECU fuel and timing maps. And the Z4 is better then the earlier W6, W9, U8 etc..etc.. ECU's
