Question octane boster?

Ive just purchased a nice 99 WRX which was imported via Cyprus iirc, and after checking the engine code i noticed it was a 276bhp (280ps) version.

Sooo, I'm correct in assuming this should definately be run on at least Optimax? I've dun a few searches on her and see recommendations for using octane booster aswel? Do most agree with this?

These may be daft questions but I know little about Import cars so you'll have to bare with me ....
  1. What are the best Octane Boosters or what to you lot recommend?
  2. If I get my car re-mapped is it possible to have it mapped for say 95ron uk unleaded? Will there be a performance drop if this is possible or is optimax the lowest you'd go? Reason I ask is I live 30miles from my nearest shell garage... doh!!!!
  3. Is it a bad idea to use normal unleaded + more octane booster, or is this viable?
Thanks ya'll!

You could get the car remapped for 95 ron using an ecu like the apexi power fc which means the you wouldn't have to use octane booster but i guess the power would be down.
TBH keep a couple of bottles of OB in the car thats what i used to do.

Its a 99 wrx

You can just get the car remapped (ecutek) though id personally get it mapped for 97+ ron fuel.
As for octane booster, its recommened on the later classics as they were designed to run on 100 ron fuel and their ecu's are not brilliant at retarding, they rather let the engine blow up (unlike the new age cars )
You may as well get an exhaust fitted at the same time (and a dry panel filter )

Comfortably!

Safety first though, dont start sticking mods on it untill you can get it mapped for UK juice straight after! Do a search on here for Ecutek tuners in your locality. I used Bob Rawle

I have tried many Octane Boosters and settled on Nitrous Formula from Roger Clark Motorsport and others.
Your ECU can be remapped to run 95 RON but you will loose performance. As Tony said, if 97 RON is available, go for that or consider getting a couple of 25 litre drums to increase your storage capacity and run Shell V-Power.
The NF at 2mls per litre will bring 97 to 99 and V-Power well over 100.
You will get good advice from Bob Rawle who is very approachable, not only about fuel, boosters and mapping but also as to the cost effective mods that will get you well beyond 300 bhp.

Just in the process of getting my MY99 JDM WRX SVA'd (anymore TLAs anyone?)
and have just been putting V-Power into the tank to mix with the remains of the 100RON from Japan. Just tootling round to the MOT garage and I didn't see any activity on the KnockLink at all. When it's fully legal I'll take it for a blast and see if it has more activity than before. Will wait for the results of that before adding octane booster... though maybe I should be carrying some OB in case I run out somewhere and have to put in whatever is available...?

I've been using this stuff recently. 1 bottle per tank means no messing about measuring the stuff out. Bought 50 bottles of the stuff in one go to save on P&P!
