Default Malfunction Indicator Lamp...OBD?

Please go easy, newbie post. I have a 2002 STI PPP(bugeye) 36K miles. Just about scraped through MOT on emissions 6 weeks ago after taking it to 2nd garage, running it for miles before etc and prayer. CO emissions initially high >0.3% on fast idle but eventually got through on 0.26%. Spent £1k on various bit & bobs for service & replacement blowing "joint pipe exh rear" through subaru dealer. Now this damn light is lit up all the time on the dash="malfunction indicator lamp". Service book says an emission problem. Before losing lots more ££££££ to subaru, anyone got any helpful suggestions? Gulp!

If you are in the East london area we could plug it into the computer and see what errors come up?

Thanks Guys,
Well just have to take it in and hope for the best then? If new cat needed...(36K miles?) what ££££ are we looking at? And can I take it to any garage for diagnostics? Dagenham is a bit far from Bristol...cheers!
