Default Rumbling noise form near turbo

Hi wife came home to tell me that me 95wrx sounds like a tractor when the accelerator is pressed. Had a quick look and listen sounds like leaking exhaust/manifold as its coming from around the turbo not sure which yet anybody had any experience of this and if so any ideas. I will have a look first thing tomorrow.

Its probably the flexi section in the up-pipe.

This is where the leak was on mine anyway and its a fairly common problem.

You can go to many breakers for a second hand one such as

Grade A

Scooby Teknix

the for sale section here and ebay of course.

Or you can get replacement pipes from

Hayward And Scott

Scoobyworld: Exhausts:

But i would take the pipe off first and check it, it may just be a leaking gasket.

I'd say its quite an easy job but i've done it countless times now. Although it does involve removing the turbo and will take a fair amount of time to complete. Just take your time and use WD40 on all the nuts 1st.

From under the bonnet
----------------------

You may need to remove the turbo heat shield if you have one installed (You will probably find this will be the most difficult/fidly/frustrating part to the job)

You will now need to undo the 5 nuts connecting the downpipe to the turbo.(Spray with WD40 1st)

There are also 5 nuts you need to undo to release the up-pipe from the turbo.(4 connect the turbo to the up-pipe, 1 connects the up-pipe to the block)

Now disconnect the turbo inlet and outlet pipes, water pipes and oil pipes and remove the turbo.

Under the car
-------------

Now from under the car you will need to undo the two bolts fixing the up-pipe to the headers(manifold) and remove the pipe.

Cheack the gaskets and up-pipe for leaks and replace as necessary.

Yes!

You will need to unclip the plug to the crank sensor to prevent the car from starting. (Under the alternator just above the crank pulley)

Turn the car over a few times to get oil through the turbo and the oil pressure back up.

You may also have to top up the water.

Then replace the crank sensor plug and fire her up!
