RATTLE WHEN OFF THROTTLE
i have a loud rattle coming from the gear lever area when off throttle there is no noise when the engine is reved the car has recently had a new clutch skimmed flywheel new release bearing and flywheel centre bearing there is no heat shields on the car its also had a new gearbox and diff front wheel bearings cambelt, tensioner, and bearings the noise is only there when off throttle as soon as you touch the throttle it goes the noise was there before all of the above items were changed as you can see im trying everything to try and get rid of the noise it seems to be consistent with engine rpm but its not a constant noise it gets louder the hotter the car gets has anybody got any ideas of what it might be or what will cure it cheers .....

I have the same prob and have been told it is the center diff which I believe is housed in the gear box along with the two front drive shafts. In short it could be the diff, it could be the drive shaft or it could be the gear box. You may want to get this confirmed elsewhere but this is what I have been told to check on my one..

Its had all the bearings replaced in the gearbox and also tried a different transfer box as it seemed the noise was coming from there but it's still the same?
Each time things are changed the noise still remains, the only difference being the revs that the sound starts at and how long it takes for the noise to start. After changing the transfer box the noise now starts after about 10mins of driving and at about 2.5k revs, before the transfer box change it would not start untill after 30mins of driving and at about 3k revs???
Has anyone had a similar problem and manged to fix it without replacing the whole box?

Try to re-torque all transmission mount bolts.
Also re-torque the gear shifter mechanism, use the torques specified in the service manual.
It could the famous gear rattle:
UUC Motorwerks * What is gear rattle? Transmission noise? Flywheel rattle?
https://www.scoobynet.com/drivetrain...ht=gear+rattle
It is somewhat random what cars are affected by the problem, but the Impreza is prone to develop this problem due to a lightweight drivetrain.
When the gearbox oil is cold, the high viscosity counteract the gear rattle - but as it heats up the viscosity decreases and the noise appears. It does not cause any increased wear, but it is irritating.

Uprated clutches have a tendancy to rattle when not under load, mine does in neutral when pedal depressed & when rolling off throttle as you say. Its just one of those things apparently. I queried this with the guys at API & they confirmed its true so cant argue with them.

I had the clutch and flywheel replaced and since then the noise is constant when warm at certain revs, thats when it all started. It's not an uprated clutch or a lightweight flywheel though?
I was chatting to someone last night who thought it might be the clutch release bearing?
Cheers for your helps.
