Default Painting Dashboard advice

Hi all. Just a question. Im interested in trying to improve the look of my 1997 2.0 rx non turbos interior and was wondering if I could either paint, or get replacement parts for some of the dashbord to smarten it up? Any ideas or suggestions?

Also is there any way you can think of increasing the "storage space" in the front of the car. The later models have the centre dash storage space. Is it possible to replace a newer dash with my current one?

Thanks in advance.
