Right then gents, as per the thread title, on having to remove the cams from my UK MY99 for reasons stated in my project thread, i have had to break the rear camshaft pully cover to remove the cam as it was far too tight.
Now, it is out you would think that it would be easy to remove, but it isn't having it.

I have used heat (lots of) a 10ft bar on the socket end , an electric impact gun, normal impact driver and i have even put the retaining bolt in a vice and tried to turn the camshaft on the spanner securing flats but it just won't budge.

Need ideas from the clever blokes on here please it is doing my head in as i can't put the cam back in to reshim the head untill i get this off

is it a left hand thread ?

It's standard thread, they just get a good hold.

take it to ATS or any tyre fitting place that works with wagon tyres etc, ask them to put the inch drive impact wrench on it.

Have seen this used on a Crank pully, needless to say it snapped the end off the crank

its definatley a standard thread and i would not recomend heating it up the pulleys are not very strong i have seen a few broken ones, the only way is to use a bigger impact gun as mentioned above i had the same problem last week and you wont believe how easy it comes off with a big gun

If it snaps well it snaps.... No better or worse off than not being able shift it at all, at least then the man knows he needs a replacement and can carry on with his rebuild!

Any better suggestions ?
