Question decat confusion!

to me i always thought removing the cats from your car war supposed to increase power and torque. i went to exhaust-a-fit down in darlo to enquire about knocking me up a custom piece to remove both cats and i was informed that i would lose power rather than gain it, as its non-turbo. ive got a 2000 sport and knew i wouldnt get anywhere near a power gain as a turbo but still expected a bit of a difference. can anyone confirm, for my sake and sanity whether i will gain or lose power and what i could expect as a difference. cheers, andy.

You will gain the ability for more power from removing the cats, as they represent a big restriction. I would be very surprised if you didn't notice a performance benefit from doing so on your sport, but have no direct experience on an NA subaru.

on a well designed system you should not lose power by removing the cats. If however they design the system to a to large diameter then you will lose back pressure which can cause you to loose power. (assuming the engine is standard)

no you won't, you should gain between 5 to 10 bhp by removing both cats.

having a high flow panel filter will help a hell of a lot as well
