My cat (converter NOT feline) has started blowing and totally confused with what I need to replace it. Everywhere I look for a part it always states a First Cat and Second Cat.

I'l try and describe what I see beneath the car...

Starting from the downpipes.

1: There is a twisty length of exhaust with two, for want of a better word, lumps (could be cats, I don't know) along that particualr length.

2: Then a long straight length with a lump, could be cat, again I don't know, positioned towards the front of the car.

3: Then the back box.

My question is, is number 1 and 2 the first and second cat I keep hearing about.

My car is a 1999 T reg 2.0 Impreza SportWagon.

Any help explaining this to me would be greatly appreciated.

1st cat is the section with the lambda sensor screwed into it.
2nd cat is in the section behind.

 

It's the first section that's blowing.

Is the big price difference between the two cats because it has the lambda sensor already attached...

 

No, it won't come with the lambda sensor if you are buying it new from a dealer
