Scoob engines often let go after an oil change.. lots of theories behind it.. but always worth filling the oil filter with oil and then turning the engine over to get oil pressure before allowing the engine to fire up.
Also engine flush is a no no.
If the oil filter is not filled the first few seconds are spent with all the oil flowing into the filter rather than around the engine and the bigends don't get enough oil.. is a theory anyway.
Ask Subaru about part exhanging your short engine. . price is £750 iirc for a recon short engine from the main dealer. One thing they got the price realistic on.

If the garage did the work, then it blew up aint it there fault?????????
If you did it then i can understand you wanting some advice and opinions on what to do. But i would be straight back to the garage, demanding they sort it out.
Are they mechanics or what.......

i would take it back to the garage bud, they fitteed the engigne and did the oil and filter change, but if you do, dont tell them they should of pre-filled the oil filter, just ask them how they did it.
Theres plenty of people on this forum that knock people for not pre-filling oil filters, but me,personaly, i would pre-fill every single one.

Why WOULDN'T you pre-fill the filter?
I've always serviced my own cars, it's the only way to know it's been done! There is not a garage on this planet that I would trust enough not to check the work they have done. Having said that, there will always be a tiny delay in the oil fully circulating as the galleries above the filter are purged of air following their loss of oil when the old filter was removed.

hence why it is worth priming it too..
I know of one engine that let go in the same circumstances..
the garage that did the oil change paid another garage to rebuild the engine and took full responsibility.. they used engine flush, they didn't prefil the filter and didn;t prime the engine..
I had assumed you had already discussed it with them?
