Default HKS "mushroom" filters

The ones that come on most imports, well, are they worth fitting and having on ?

Also, what size do i need to get if i need a filter replacement,i see some for 150mm and 200mm,dont have the current foam part to measure....

Also, while were talking about HKS,the blow off valves,do they really need that inline "filter" to them ?

cheers......

My MY97WRX had a HKS Induction kit on it when it came over, to be honest with you it was not very good at all with respect to filtration, my MAF housing was always filthy when taken off to inspect.

I personally think the apexi IK are a lot better but K+N have a good reputation (i won't bother going into the 'you only need an IK over 350bhp' argument).
If you do fit one make sure it isn't oiled.

I have one on mine, ive never had a standard one but I love the noise it makes between gear changes, you can here the engine taking a deep breath! Sounds great when twined with a DV as it sucks more in with a bigger suck noise!

Gets very dirty though as was pointed out yesterday!

Had an HKS mushroom filter on an MR2 Turbo I used to have (Came already fitted) the filtration level was absolute ****e - it started to run a little lumpy, wasn't surprised to find the 'flap' style flowmeter was caked in crap. It was soon removed!

Cheers

Yes, I agree with the comments above.

Mine had one of these when I bought it, and the filtration is really bad. If you look through the filter, you can see how big the holes are.

Cheers all, mixed reports then, if you change the foam, which this one is indeed of a need of, they are o.k ?!?!?

it was on when i bought it and must admit, it did sound alot better than the standar unit i put back on, as i noticed the foam was wrecked etc etc.

might get a foam element and try it

what size foam is it, i see 150 and 200mm sizes about......

I was once told that these type of filters needed to be oiled for them to work correctly as a filter - but then oiling them wrecked the MAF !

So it was a case of wrecked MAF if you do.... wrecked engine if you don't !

So I left my standard filter on !
