unplugging ICV
hi there, think ive come to the conclusion my idle control valve is shot
at £270 a pop i just wanted to check.
could anyone check? , or tell me. if i unplug the wires from my ICV, should the idle go mental?
any helps would be great.
thanks

As said, on the 93~98 car the idle valve is controlled via a spindle with electro magnets within the cap.. undo the two screws and list the cap off and you can turn the spindle to increase / decrease the idle speed... or twisting the cap with the screws loose will do the same.. unplugging it should see the spindle rotate to the middleish setting and idle roughly 1000rpm depending on the position of the cap.
If however you have a newer car 99-> then it may be the MAF sensor is faulty..

i do have a MY00, although im running a 300zx MAF, the revs go straight up to 3k, then when off choke rev's itself from 1k-2.5k.
when i unplug the ICV the above still happens
thanks for both your advise
still think it could be the ICV?

Secondhand ICV turned up today, plug it in a worked fine,
car only had 46k on it, suppose these things can just break
although car not revving very well in low rev's, Think i just need to adjust the TPS now, then we're rolling again
thanks for everyones help
