Default Knock

Hi all,

Ive noticed some knock showing on my apexi ecu commander. Its not enough to bring on my cel light with is set up through the ecu to detect knock but it does show a decent 1/4 to 1/3 bar on my commander when im accelerating.

What can cause knock. I.e what can i check to try and find the source?.

Then only thing that has been done recently was an induction scoop fitted which i think had been takin in abit of water that was blowing in from the bonnet after it had rained and when it was raining so it has been removed.

Could this have caused a fault somewhere and thats why im showing KNOCK. Or is it just a simple case of something rattleing in side my engine bay like turbo heat shield or intercooler pipes etc.

Also the car still runs fine from low boost setting to full boost and doesnt seem to be and differant? Not that noticable anyway but hard to tell as i need a new clutch and it slips when run on full boost.

Any info would be very appreciated

Have you got the commander set to store peak values ?
If so what are the peak Knock Values.

When you have the Knock displayed on the commander i.e you have Boost and Knock shown. Press the 'Up arrow' and a black sqaure with a number in it will appear on the right. This is the peak value recorded.

check the peak numbers as Scott says. The bar that goes up does look a lot but checking the numbers will probably show in the 20's or less. Depending on the year of car, the earlier ones are noisier anyway so I have been told

Thanks

Hi there,

Maybe dodgy batches of petrol, failing sensor, spark plugs on the way out?

I would say that 10 is fine, infact that's quite low.
My MY00 reads about 15-17 when gunning it, and listening with detcans you get a very faint tinkle of Knock at 24.

I would say the 10 was after you drove it slowly etc..

what is the peak after the bar shows what you were seeing previously?

10 is nothing for a '93 car. When you get a peak of 68 like I did the other day, start panicking

Seems to have been a one-off though as its not normally more than high 20's to low 30's at full chat.

wouldnt worry about 10, you will sometimes get higher than that when you first start the car!! If you are unsure, speak with your mapper I am sure they will put your mind at rest

Hi

Just a quick update was out in the car having abit of fun on low boost as my clutch needs replacing soon and noticed a 49 showing on my peak knock and nearly sh*t.

I have a fmic etc fitted and i know that it rattles abit would that be knock or is knock something internal.

If someone can explain what knock is excatly i can hopefully understand things abit better and maybe not panic as much.

Cheers all.

Just back in from a little run car still seems to pull hard and drive fine but have noticed knock of 58.

Can anyone shed some light on what i could check to see whats causing it.

Cheers

best bet is to speak with your mapper. They will know what your engine was like and anything else. 58 is quite high, you can knock some degrees of the ignition and see if you still get the same problem

As Jay mentions it's running too much ign, remove 2 degrees with the commander and see if it stops the high knock count.

What boost do you run?

hi,

Just got a reply from andy who did the map and he thinks its probably the clutch as its on its was out so ill keep an eye on it and once the clutch is done ill know for sure.

Just to let yous know it does it on low boost 0.8bar and even on full boost 1.4bar.
