Default Preventing fuel cut...

Mate of mine just replaced some various hoses and now when giving some beans on the m-way the car almost stops for a split second. Ive been advised that this is fuel cut, so how does he sort it out???

Not sure thats the case, it was only a couple of hoses replaced like for like. It did do it to me before I sold it to him once. Perhaps the ESL chip i fitted is too much for the car...

I thought there was a fuel cut defender that you could buy??

there is, but it is a sure fire way of bolloxing up an engine imho.
Fuel cut is there for a reason, get the car properly mapped on a proper ecu

its not worth fitting a fuel cut defencer as your car will be underfuelling when on full boost. Fun for a while until the bill lands. . . . . .

That's got bad news written all over it!

Get the car properly mapped, problem solved!

Probably......

Bottom hose from boost control solenoid should have a brass restrictor fitted in it. If it's not there is will over-boost.

I had this problem with my old MY97 Sti - my solution was a Blitz boost contoller set at 1.25bar and then a check and tune on the rollers to make sure fuelling was OK, etc. Never had any problems again (40k+ miles)

If it is the standard road chipset you gave him Simon then the boost cut is set at 1.2bar. Check the boost pressure when it happens, if it is lower than this and your gauge is accurate, then it isn't boost cut. In that instance check the plugs are healthy, the gaps are set at a max of 0.7mm and check under the coilpack boots for cracks as it may be ignition related. If it didnt happen until you replaced the hoses, then check the hoses are properly attached and see above wrt hose restrictor.

Its the chip I got off of you...

Just spoke to him and the UK car he nicked the pipe off didnt have a restrictor on it, I guess thats wht he assumed it was a botch unless the UK cars dont have them fitted??

Sizer=Simon.

You got more than one set of chips and an eprom extractor. Which ones are in the board?

As JGM said, if the restrictor isnt present then its likely to be overboosting, although the boost gauge (if present) will tell you for sure.

Its definately boosting high, he said it went up to 1.25 the other day. Got the custom chip based on the race map in there at the mo. Ill go pick the restrictor up for him at the weekend and he can chuck it in and try it....

I'd advise you put the standard road chips back in, the custom map was a fair bit more aggressive and would need some monitoring equipment to ensure no det.

Dont remember an email, can you resend? Thx.

Theres a detalarm fitted and thats looking fine, does light up when you change gear though but Ive heard thats normal.

But will try the restrictor, if that doesnt work, ill change the chip back for him.
