Just fitted a 3" cat back system to a 53 wrx car seems to run fine but wondered if the ecu should now be remapped thanks in advance.

You shouldn't need a remap for centre section and back box. If you start changing down pipe etc a map will reap the benefit of your existing mods or you could use a manual boost controller to help control over-boost.
