Default idle concern

Morning all, im in need of some advise. I have a slight idling issue, its very itermittent but annoying nether the less. Basically sometimes when i fire the car up, the revs climb to about 1100-1200 rpm i think, then it dies. Start again and its fine. Its mainly when i pull up to a junction, sometimes it dies, sometimes its lumpy. I have only noticed this lately and the only things thats changed are my dumpvalve (baileys DV10) and my front mounted intercooler.

Ps MAF is only about 3 months old.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers simon, i had a feeling that it would be... is that something that can be ironed out in the next mapping session (when funds allow ) or will the DV need to be replaced. I assume the ecu expects to see a certain amount of air and with the fmic this may confuse it?

Cheers Simon, Ps i was gonna email you, i had a go at the sensor check but im unsure of what it is that im looking for.

Cheers.

Darren,

I hadn't realised this was your scoobynet name Darren.

As I mapped it on the top mount it might just be related to the addition of the FMIC then.

Just if the dump valve is to atmosphere and it opens sometimes on idle hence the problem.. you could tell for sure by removing the DV and blocking the hole left in the pipework.. just don;t go boosting it hard as the VF turbo won't like no DV.. but would show you if the problem was DV related or not.

Obviously be careful driving it with FMIC on there until we map it again anyway.

Thanks
Simon

Yes spoken to Chris, many thanks.

He is awaiting a PowerFC he has ordered, then I will fit and map it for him.

Have a good holiday and good luck finding a new job.

Well its less intermittant now, infact its permenant. The car is on my driveway and wont start. Fires up, lumpy idle then cuts out. Trying a friends MAF sensor in it tomorrow. If this doesnt work, what else can i try without spending a forturne on replacing every sensor etc.

Many thanks

Sounds like MAF or vacuum or boost hose leak.

not another MAF.. that is two in 3months?

Cannot remember which induction kit you are running but check it is secured properly and not vibrating or that something is vibrating on it..

Not sure on cheapest place.. would imagine the usual places stock them.

I know, its bizarre. Im running an apexi filter. Secured firmly. Only thing i can think off is that it was an oiled filter maybe. I think on the mapping session ill be going down the maf-sim route so if anyone has a spare maf sensor please give me a shout.

Cheers for all the advice mate

Right, i have a new MAF sensor on the Scooby now, it now starts. However, its idling fine..... until i turn on the A/C or hold the window swith up if its at the top, what im getting at is if the voltage drops for a split second the idle has a hissy fit and stalls. Whats my next thing to check? iv changed the Maf and tried a friends lambda...

Thank you

DV.. try removing and blocking off the pipes..

Although it could just be as it is mapped on the TMIC and you now have the FMIC on there.

Im at wits end now, iv removed the dv completely, and its still having the problem. Smooth idle, until its under load, ie air con on and it stalls. Is this something i should be concerned about?

Cheers

Quick update, its still playing up. There is a sensor on the top of the throttle body, its the one that sits near the top, not the side. Is this the throttle position sensor? Im assuming that if i disconnect this at idle it should cause the engine to idle funny etc. Well i have disconnected this, and its made no difference at all..... does this indicate a problem with this sensor or is this normal activity?

Thank you.
