The time limit for prosecution is 6 months from the date of the offence. However there is an argument that you still have to provide the driver details on the S172 form, else you risk being done for failing to furnish. By supplying the details of the driver, there is no risk of prosecution, so just ignore anything else. You can check this up from www.pepipoo.com

The police have 14 days to notify you via a 'notice of intended prosecution '.If they're telling you now for the very first time ,then they have cocked up. The only exceptions are accidents and instances of reckless or carless driving (and a couple more irrelevent offences ).Tell them it's out of time and unenforcable ,because at the end of the day if there were numerous users of the car who would remember who was driving that long ago?
