Default Cambelt whine, normal???

Just changed the Cambelt on a MY93 WRX and it seems to be whining.

Me and my Dad did his legacy GT and his did the same thing so we srtipped it down again and slackened off the tensionr as it sounds like the belt is too tight but this made no difference and he just carried on using it as it was and it was fine just noisey.

My tensioner seems to be fine and i replaced all the guide pulleys as they seemed abit noisey.

the only common factor on both cars is the Cambelt which is a Goodyear product, could it be this? or is this noise normall with a fresh cambelt? maybe the teeth have to wear down abit?

any help please,
GAZ

I need to know asap if im going to have to strip it down again, want it ready for a meet on sunday.

It did whine before and so did the legacy and my other impreza sport so i thinks its a common thing that they whine but this is alot louder than before so i need to know if this is normall with a new belt

Hi, i do a few cambelt changes for myself and other peoples. Using goodyear belts, you do get a whine when fitted, this i put down to the cam pulleys being metal, but when i changed a belt on a later spec car with the bakerlite pulleys, you don't get any whine. It will ease off as time goes on, as the belt wears in a bit, nothing to worry about. I also checked with a mate of mine who is a scooby specialist, and he told me the same. Hope this puts your mind at ease.
