Default Engine management light! WHY???

HELP!!!!!

Phoned David at API today regarding a fuel cut/boost/hesitation problem when driving at around 4k rev`s.
He told me that for starters i should remove my ***** Baileys DV12 dump valve as the spring might not be holding. Then check the MAF sensor by removing it while the engines running, and seeing if it stalls. Which it did. Then disconnect the battery to reset the comp.

Having done all this, i have started the car and am now faced with the engine management light on the dash!!!

Why has this light started to show?

It proved very exspensive the last time i saw that light!!
