Excessive combustion chamber temps ???
Any help on this will be much appreciated.
Fitted a z4 ecu yesterday, took it for a blast, seemed ok, car has always been running 1 bar boost, so was'nt expecting any power gains. Only fitted as it's regarded to have a better ignition curve so i've been told.
Always used to get a glimmer of KL activity even though i always use opti with booster, fitted the z4, no KL activity, chuffed i was, until.....
Coming home, 4th gear accelerating hard, seemed to lose power, so nursed her home for a gander. On inspection of the spark plugs ( 7s only done 500 mile at most) found no3 plug had melted the end off. All the others showed signs off excessive heat aswell.
Done a compression test to find no 3 cylinder has nothing, zero. So i'm presuming it's holed the piston or smashed/bent or jammed a valve.
Just would like to know why it would be so hot in there as to melt a plug?
Never had any problem with the standard ecu. And the z4 showed less det on the KL, but why after just fitting it would this happen.... Too much of a coincidence!
Its a 93 wrx, it's run at 1 bar boost constant in the 2 years i've owned it, always on opti and booster, changed the plugs countless times and the old ones have never looked in the state these ones do.
Any ideas? Please.

As the saying goes, you buy cheap and you pay twice. Seriously, get an ECU fitted and mapped by a pro and don't waste money on direct replacement items with generic or unknown maps.

Ive got a Z4 to fit aswell mate, I fitted it last week with no boost adjustments. I was going on a long run so filled the tank up to the neck, I usually get about 55mls to £10. I had done about 40mls and I felt like I was watching the fuel gauge go down. I stopped and filled it up to the neck again and it took £12. You have the opposite problem to me, maybe its not a Z4.
