Default Fitment Of STI newage rear spoiler to WRX, Bigger Springs Required?

Do bigger springs need fitting when the newage STI spoiler is fitted to the WRX? Ive heard that due to the weight that they do ?? Anyone concur ??

Sounds like rubbish. They certainly weigh less than one passenger....

Yup! Get bigger springs or boot will always want to close.

I had non-sti big wind spoiler fitted to car when first bought (with uprated springs) then changed to sti spoiler later and those new springs only just do the job!

Our STi rear spoilers do not need the springs replaced.
The bootlid will still pop open using the interior catch and once open it will stay open and will not fall down on your head.

I've got a prodrive WR spoiler fitted to my WRX (the UK300 type) which is not as heavy as the STi spoiler. The boot still pops open ok but I do have to be careful when closing it, I only need to let it go from half way for it to close properly.

Have you fitted a genuine one of a copy? I have a genuine item and the springs IMHO ARE needed. maybe the copies are a touch lighter....
