yes and no, some cars get away with it, but by removing cats your removing the restirction on the turbo pipes so it will run harder, and in worst situation too hard and could wipe out engine, but that is worst case, you might be ok.

personaly i'd recomend having it done, makes even more difference to how the car feels compared to the decat.

only slight hitch might be i'm not sure if you can directly map the ecu on a 95 car, you might need an aftermarket ecu to do it

have look at the top of the engine for the coil pack (in the pic below, the coil pack is the black box with red wires coming out each end)

on my engine its mounted on the right, if the coil pack is mount centrally then you wont be able to map it.

so go pop your bonnet and have a look.

£380 + vat + RR time for the scoobyecu (piggyback system)
£550 + vat + RR time for the ecutek (existing system)

the existing ecu is more expensive to mapp cos a liecense has to be bought for your car (one off payment), after that its very cheap to tweek the map, cost me £150 to tweek map for down pipe cat removal.

You cant remap a 95 model car Phil, so ECUTEK is out of the question.

Your best bet would be an aftermarket ECU. Apexi from Andy F or Pavlo probably.

ok, didn't go down that route myself cos it ws gonna be more expensive.

but on another note my car was mapped at scoobyclinic by pat hence knowing they are very good and recomending them

from all the reports i've heard of theres only 4 mappers i'd trust my car with, pat, bob rawle, pavlo and andyf.

There's more to life than the mappers that post on Scoobynet
But yea most of those pretty well respected by me as well.

No probs it's just you were recommending stuff and showing pics of your 99 /00 car when his stated in the first post as a 95.
The simple way to tell if it can be ECUTEK'd is to look at the MAF sensor, if it's square then it's too old.
This change happened around 1998.
