Default whurring noise

When I am able to give the car (my99 uk turbo) some stick I hear a funny whurring noise, at first I thought it was the gearbox, however it is engine speed dependent not road speed dependent. Also if I slow the pace down the noise goes away. Does anyone know what is causing the noise and if it can cause major problems.

Does it sound like a touring car? If so it could be the power steering fluid running low??

thanks for the reponse guys,

1. defo not the turbo
2. Power sterring fluid is fine
3. Could be a wheel bearing but it only does it after the car gets driven hard for a while. then if I slow the pace down for a while the sound goes away.
4. Don't have aircon

Could it be the fuel pump? if it is where would the noise be coming from front of back?
