The lagging stuff attached under the Bonnet..
I've never seen any questions around this. What exactly is its purpose?
All it seems to do is keep everything warmer under the bonnet, while also absorbing some of the noise.
Would I be better taking it off as nobody has mentioned it before

Hot air travels faster - so keeping the hot things hot by lagging them improves gas flow and consequently; power.
Lagging also helps to lower under bonnet temperatures which can only be a good thing.

Thats what I thought. I dont have the TMIC anymore, so if it helps maintain the airflow to that, then its another reason for ditching it.
Would there be any downsides to getting rid, apart from noise increase? I cant think of any off hand. Save a couple of kilos of weight too

Dont know about saving kilos but will save few ounces.
I removed mine as all it is there for is to reduce noise in cabin - it retains engine bay heat and is above turbo, so ditch asap.
PS Wrap on exhaust is also recommended then electrical items in bay stay cooler for sure.

IIRC someone took this off a few years back, and got problems with paint fading/blistering above the "hot-spots". This is going on my (somewhat) shady memory, so could be absolute bullsh!t though

I can believe that actually as it would make sense that it is also there to protect the paintwork.
There is wrap on the down-pipe, up-pipe and headers, but not the turbo.
Might try taking it off and watch out for any ill effects. I can always stick it back on if the paint starts to complain.
Or maybe stick some heat reflective material to it above the turbo

Just checked back on this thread and I now see what lagging you mean. It's there as little more than sound proofing and to prevent heat damage to the paint as stated.
