No speedo = CEL light????
Hi guys,
Yesterday i had another gearbox fitted (same type of course),anyway the mechanic told me my speedo cable is buggered (no reading on the dash) so when driving the car home about 8miles the CEL light came on. Although i havnt checked the code yet,i was wondering if the speedo would cause the CEL?

Sounds odd to me unless your speedo never worked in the 1st place.
I would double check the speedo cable, it have might been disconnected from the back of the speedo clock accidently during the gearbox change?
If its connected fine & still not working then remove it & do a basic check on the cable (longer type). Make sure its not kinked or damaged (outer casing). Then check if the spindle spins freely, you should be able to turn it by hand. If it sticks sometimes or difficult to turn then it will need replacing.
Do the same check for the short speedo cable that fits into the gearbox, this will have to be removed though (17mm spanner).
At least this way you will know for sure if you need a new speedo cable.
I am not sure if your has the convertor for kph to mph, or if your speedo dial has been changed instead.
