Default 3 Port Boost solenoid question?

Briefly what does it do?

And is it a neccessity if I get a re-map?

It controls the level of boost seen by the actuator and does the same job as the 2-port solenoid.

It is better at controlling boost at the higher end and is only if you intend to go above 1.2bar

A metal (brass coloured) 3 port was fitted as standard on 1992 - 1996 cars. Subaru switched to a 2-port of similar design for 1997-1998 cars, then to a plastic 2-port from 1999>
