DOT 4 will be fine, you could go one better and put DOT 5 in if you like......
Time to teach granny to suck eggs...... make sure you fit the calipers with the bleed nipple at the TOP!

If you don't want to leave anything to chance:
Dot 5.1 fluid, about half a litre will be enough to bleed through the whole system.
New copper washers on the banjo ends of the flexi hoses.

Yeah it's bog standard - everywhere sells it. DOT5.1 isn't so easy to get hold of all the time, but Halfords do their own, although craftily they only sell a 250ml top-up size for £3 or so or a whole 1 litre family size for a tenner where you end up leaving half a litre unused and then by the time you come to change your brake fluid again, it's gone off.
I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but DOT 5.1 is more hygroscopic than DOT4 (or DOT3) so it will need changing more regularly. I suppose there has to be some downside to the higher boiling point. As someone else pointed out, DOT5 is a synthetic fluid, usually found in a yellow box, which apparently never needs changing. Never tried it so I couldn't say, but there must be a reason why so many people still stick to normal stuff even though it's such a pain in the ****.

Sorry about saying 'DOT5', i of course meant 5.1.......
I used Dot 5 silicone stuff in my Mini when i rebuilt it from scratch, couldn't get a nice firm pedal, so ditched it for old fashioned stuff.......
