Default decat or not

since being thrashed by a wrx im lookin for extra power if i remove the center cat and resonator from an 02 sti will the cel light stay on? is there any gain in power/exhaust tone? i'm going to a rolling road saturday ,i run the car on 95 ron fuel its a stansard my02 sti (not jap) what readings should i expect to get.also when i nail it in fourth the boost will peak to 1.3bar and then fall back to .8/.9 is this right because my buddys wrx holds a constant 1-1.1 bar
thanks in advance

to be honest you will hardly get any gains whatsoever. It is the downpipe cat that is most restrictive andpossibly the up pipe. If the wrx thrashed you then it wouldnt be worthwhile doing.

You best bet would be a sports decat downpipe decat uppipe, new air filter. A remap wouldnt really be necessary, however having one will take full advantage of the bits you add.

also maybe run the car on something of a better quality than 95 ron, probably wont be a great difference but you will probably notice smoother running pickup etc.

wasnt it an STi which fifth gear tested on normal, optimax and BP ultimate. I am sure the power increased over 30BHP from standard 95 RON unleaded to Optimax.

it was a 04 wrx with a full decat hks filter runnung 95ron fuel and it was well quicker than my 02 sti.i read here somewhere if the ecu detects bad fuel it will retard the timing and wont reset when given high octane fuel.what i mean is my car has been runnung 95ron if i add octane boost will the ecu detect the higher grade fuel and readjust the settings to suit

The newer cars can readjust the timing more or less in realtime , it was the early classics that had to have a reset.

Pointless adding the octane booster to 95 ron fuel (unless you cannot get any other type) as it will work out similar in cost to just use 97+

we only have 95ron in Ireland f**king government taxed the bollix out of 98ron. what should an non jap sti run on - the manual states to put in 98ron but 95ron is ok if no 98 available.

usually it is a case of always use the best thats available (depending on price etc).
Do you know the owner of the wrx? It could have had a remap.
