Default idle speeds

Ive recently put a new engine with uprated internals into my classic. Its all run in now and im just deciding on which turbo to buy before arranging for it to have the power fc fitted and mapped with the other mods that are going on.
The car seems to sometimes idle irratically and i went on a long drive in it over the weekend and after cruising along the motorway and dual carrigeways for a long time when i clutched it i noticed the car was idleing at 1.5 thousand rpm..
The car sits and idles normally most of the time but i really can't understand this. Can anyone tell me what the likely problem could be??
Any help really appreciated.
Thanks
Pete

Hi Pete, I forget whay MY your cars was from when we met recently. I had an odd idleing problem on my MY97WRX and eventually cured it by cleaning the throttle position sensor with electrical cleaner.

Hiya. Mines a classic 94 wrx import. Sorry thought i'd put that in!! Cheers for those headers mate there spot on. Although still haven't got round to fitting them. Think i'll leave it so it all goes on together!!. Think i got a real bargin there after the work you'd obviously put into them.
I'll have a go at cleaning that tomorrow and see if it cures the problem. Thanks for the help.
