Default hazard lights on engine start. Why?

Sometimes when I start the engine, the hazard lights flash twice just as the engine fires. I've noticed this when the engine doesn't start as smoothly as normal.

Anyone experienced this or know about it? It's happened 3 times now and twice today.

Had this problem on my old 2001 WRX. it was a dodgy battery and when cranking the engine the voltage would drop enough for the alarm to think something was wrong and try to sound (siren & hazards) but 9 times out of 10 only the hazards would flash. Eventually i got round to changing the battery and this fixed the problem. I've had the same problem with my work van (Ford Transit) which is also fitted with a Sigma alarm.

Take this as a warning that your battery is on it's last legs - the voltage is dropping too much under load.

First thing to play up on cars when the battery is half dead is almost always the alarm and immobilsers. Mainly because they use electronics that can't tolerate under-voltage (go figure ).
