Question 3 Port boost solenoids - little advice

I've read the install of a 3 port solenoid instead of a 2 port re pipes, not a problem. Does it need rewiring or is it the same electrical connector used for oe 2 port? Anyone know best/cheap place to source one and are some better than others?

Grade A mate! Circa 35 quid from an early Scooby; they're all much of a muchness apparently.

You'll need to have the car remapped immediately after having it intalled though, as the ECu experts info from the 2 port.

Depends what MY.
The MY97/98 uses a 2 port of the same design so the connector is the same.

If not then you will have to either cut/wire it to the required connector or just remove the crimps from the connector shell on your loom and push them into the mating half.

Info based on using a Pre96 3-port on later MY

the wiring colours are obvious.. from memory black to black and then remaining wires together.. red and yellow combination iirc..

Question

Anyone used prodrive's 3 port solenoid - ment to be perfect fit with no wire cuts. See http://www.oakos.com/Merchant2/merch...de=ASM-INT-720

Also is Perrin 3 port better?

I run a GM solenoid on my WRX - it cost $20!! - so I imported a few to try out.
Needed wiring in but has had no problems at all.

Perrin version is a very bulky item in comparision, but they are all much of a muchness.

Question

Those instructions go on a bit Nick...wires and resistor for what?..I thought its only two wires to connect 3 port? If your's fits with just two wires, I'd be interested in a purchase.

The resistor isn't needed.
There are only two wires to connect.
3 port solenoids can be run in 2 port mode until remap time, by rearranging the pipework.

I've got one left and I'll do it for £35 inc P & p.

OR

I bought them from Puritan parts in the US:
newGMparts.com

Select GMC cars and part no. 1997152 for the solenoid. Currently £20

There is also a connector to go with the solenoid - part no. 12102747. Also $20!!

I didn't bother with buying any connectors. I just made up two leads with connectors then filled the connector socket on the sol. with potting compound.

I'm surprised no one is bringing more of these over, given the cost of new ones here?

Thanks Nick.

I need to check with Bob (the tuner) to see if he's happy to fit this solenoid (he wants to do fit before map) but cant see an issue with it. I'd prob want the connector also though, so might order online - cheers for advice chap.

Just to make it clear, the connector fits into the solenoid - it's not the connector to link into the Subaru loom.
You'd still need to solder/scotchlock the solenoid wiring into the loom.

Yep, got that m8 - I'd prefer just electrical connections and joining wires.

Bob (Rawle) has a whole row of OEM 3-ports on the garage shelf in Swindon and he knows how to map them

I'm sure midlife, but these GM bits are dirt cheap and I can fit myself, then use no boost for short journey to bobs for remap. £150 quoted for genuine 3 port from Bob...

Question

Sorry to be a pain Nick, but can you check your part number listing for the GM items?

Select GMC cars and part no. 1997152 for the solenoid. Currently £20

There is also a connector to go with the solenoid - part no. 12102747.

The conector is listed as part of a braking system - I've asked GM directly to confirm twice via their information contact page but no replies at all.

1210247 look sike a commonly used connector for a variety of uses including the solenoid.
I never bought them so I can't confirm if the part no. is a typo from the jyg.us website.
Have a quick search on Nasioc as that's where I first found out about the GM item.
