Boost Boost Boost!!!!!!
lads,
recently the car, 1994 wrx import auto, has been running very variable boost. Normally was running about 0.9 bar, however it now seems to be running about 0.45 bar and watching the boost guage, it seems to reach the 0.45 very jerky. It then sometimes runs 0.9 then others 0.8 etc but when there is a problem its 0.45bar.
I have taken the boost solenoid from its holder and done the squirt of wd40 thru it but to no avail. there seems no reasons as to why it chooses one time to 0.95 and others 0.45.
any ideas or hints or help wud be greatly apprecaited!
cheers

I have a very similar problem
sometimes I get full boost at my 97 wrx import flys
but then very random, it sometimes holds back and only gives me what feels like only 1/2 the boost
no idea whats going on, but I need a cure asap

I had the same thing and I spent £££ on new ecu, coil packs, O2 sensor, vacuum pipes, solonoid etc.
It would run at 0.8bar then for about 30mins it would stick at 0.5bar then suddenly 0.8 again randomly????
cured with a £5 bleed valve
Blank off the top and middle subaru vacuum pipes from the solonoid leaving the bottom one that goes into the air chamber thingy, connect the MBC from the actuator to the turbo comressor ( little pipe from top on turbo) set for whatever your usual max is eg: 0.8bar.
it cured mine

Be Careful...
The ECU can limit boost to 0.5bar (approx) if it has a MAF fault. This won't always throw a CEL and the car will be running lean.
Increasing the boost manually could be the end of your engine....If cleaning or replacing the boost control solenoid does not fix it, then get the AFR checked before you jump to conclusions.
