Default Aftermarket Dump Valves??

I'm hoping all you nice people on here can help me out.

I recently took my 99 UK Turbo to a garage for a new stainless exhaust and a dump valve fitted. When I picked it up, I was told that they did not fit the dump valve because the standard ECU would not be able to manage it properly and if anything, I would notice a decrease in performance.

My question is this....Have any of you fitted and aftermarket BOV Dump Valve and suffered any ill effects from fitting it? I know it will not increase my performance but I just want that 'whoosh' sound when I change gear.
Was the garage right, can my ECU manage the new DV? Or do I also need an uprated ECU?
Thanks y'all..

Kev.

I suppose it depends on the dumpvalve that you was having fitted. Some dumpvalves allow you to alter the amount of air being dupmped so that some air can still be re-circulated. Some ECU's need this air or they will stall or rough idle. This is probably the case, but i can't be sure !

I have fitted a HKS SSQV without any problems. Its designed with 2 chambers so as not to distrupt air flow.

The BLITZ DD(dual Drive) Super Sound has this feature too.

All vent to air dump valves will cause some level of overfueling as the air has been metered... But some also cause idle running problems.

I have a MY99 UK Turbo and have fitted a Forge VTA Dump Valve and I can still get the same MPG as I did when the OE one was fitted.

Surely the over-fuelling will only occur when you are 'dumping' with throttle closed and the engine is essentially 'idling', or just as you open the throttle again in the next gear? The ECU is expecting the dumped air to be re-cycled back into the inlet and will put in fuel accordingly, but only for a fraction of a second during/after the gear change.
An open dump valve cannot affect normal full- or part-throttle fueling so performance and fuel economy should not be changed.

When you close the throttle at high revs the turbo continues to spin and thus continues to draw in more air to compress, which is then released through the VTA dump valve, this air has been metered for.. All I know is VTA gives alot more back-fires/pops than the standard DV.

Subaru put the dump valve there for a reason. Are you experiencing or expecting any disadvantages?
