Default PUMPED

Picked the scoob up today from the garage after 6months off the road and the oil pump gives up the ghost on the way home.

I found this a bit suspicious as it drove the 60miles to the garage fine so relevant checks are being made on the oil for any unwanted additives.

Anyway, the main problem is what and were do i go from here? Was meant to be getting the clutch done soon anyway so i suppose il just get it all done in a oner now. Im seriously skint but should have enough pennys for a rebuild, is this what is needed? Do i need pistons etc or should they be o.k?

This is my spec so far,

Full exhaust including Haward and Scott down pipe
Induction kit
Uprated pump and regulator
New td05 16g turbo
Blitz boost controller

Was planning a remap at scoobyclinic as next mod. Im only aiming at the 320 marker so what does everyone suggest? My car is a 96sti2 555 with around 65k on the clock. All ideas welcome!

One of my friends had the oil pump go on them and they had a really expensive rebuild on their hands because he didn't notice straight away and the engine pretty much melted down inside. I think its one of those things where you don;t know how bad the damage is until you have it stripped apart. You could be really lucky and not have too much damage but then you could also have the same problem as my mate had.
The best bet is speak to someone like Dave at API because he's probably got the most experience with this.
Good luck and hope you get it sorted.

Same thing happened to me....

You probably won't need pistons, but will likely need a new crank, new rods (mine needed 3 rods), shells, main bearings, oil pump (go for the modified pump from the likes of roger clarke) and all associated gaskets. Price varies wildly from tuner to tuner, but I was around the £1800-£1900 mark for my rebuild at a respected garage and it hasn't missed a beat yet.

Hope you get it back on the road soon

It may be that after 6 months of no flow, it may have dried out and the seals went and so did the pump. Hard luck fella

Well the offers at the moment are,

Full new sti8 bottom end, pistons, crank etc 1200pounds
Full new sti 2.5 bottom end 1300pounds

Both are new from subaru. Obviously the 2.5 would be great but id need intercooler, turbo etc to reep the rewards. Id eventualy quite like to hit the 4000bhp mark and i understand this would be easily acheivable with the 2.0litre bottom end

Neither of your two options 2 replies up will be able to produce 400 hp safely without steel rods and forged pistons being fitted as a minimum.

The STi 8 has bulls*it pistons fitted and rubber con rods the 2.5 if it's a UK engine is just as bad. The EJ257 from USA has been a popular choice but still contains rubbish pistons and rubber con rods.

Add to that fact that 2.5 generally don't like revving then it's not the answer to suit all cars [ or drivers ]

To get a genuine 400 hp you will spend not far short of £10,000 and as you state you are seriously skint I think the plans may need to be dampened a bit.

Well the plan now is to go for the 2litre bottom end, add an sti8 top mount and some new injectors. I then plan to have it mapped aiming at around 340bhp. Could anyone tell me what injectors would be best suited for this?
