Strange Squeaking Noise!!! HELP!?!
I have a strange squeaking noise coming from the front drivers side of my MY94 WRX. It sounds like a rubber boot rubbing on something. It doesn’t change with speed or cornering loads and its not a belt as I have switched the engine off whilst rolling to test this. It comes and goes and seems to not be so apparent on hot days. If the car is jacked up and the wheel spun there is no noise and there is no play from the bearing either. My mechanic thinks it might be the speedo cable, but I’m not so sure, its definitely louder outside the car. My theory is that it might be the rubber bearing seal rubbing against the bearing, but then again surely the noise would change as the car speed up. I don’t want to change the bearing just to find the noise is still there but this could be the last resort now I’m lost for ideas. Can anyone help?
I dont think its a metal on metal sound, sounds like more of a rubber on metal noise to me. I'm going to have a closer look the wheel/hub area today. Hopefully something will stand out on closer inspection.
