Default Boost levels??

I fitted a boost gauge on the other halfs WRX today, its running a HKS panel filter, decat and a late spec STi rear box. After I fitted the gauge on a quick blat peak boost was jus below 1 bar.

I had bought 2 metres of red silicone hose so I decided to replace all of the boost soleniod hoses, after replacing the hoses peak boost was just under 1.5 bar?? Then we tried the straight through back box and got just over 1.5 bar peak???

I'm sure a few hoses wont make that kind of difference??

The standard hoses contain a restrictor to aid boost control which you may have removed when replacing the pipework.

There was what looked like a restrictor in the line from the nipple on the turbo to the solenoid, basically it looked like it steped-down the pipe.. Is the restrictor in the pipe, and if its removed will it cause problems?

Cheers!

So sorry to keep asking questions which pipe is the restrictor in and is it actually part of the pipe?

Cheers.

I've just done a bit of reading on here..

Some say the 3 port boost solenoid doesnt need a restrictor.. how can I tell which type it has?? Its a MY94 and the boost solenoid (Gold cylinder) has 3 ports, one on the top, one on the side and one on the base going to the resonator/intake.

Fueling is off the scale so it should be ok..

I'm going to start another thread about this because after searching on SN there is no definitive answer as to what effect the restrictor has

Youve answered your own question!!

Has the car hit fuel cut it should do as its hitting 21psi?? If not then the ecu may have been fettled with or a fuel cut defencer is on there

so yes its a 3 port?

We took it for a "spirited" drive, no fueling problems, the power delivery was very smooth.. I dont think the ECU has been touched but I've neglected to open it yet and take a look inside, I assume a MY94 would have a daughter board if its been chipped/mapped.

There is some box of electronics located behind the boost solenods, is that stanard?

Cheers.

think the box you are on about is the igniter (cant remember though been a while since I was in that area)

As for the daughterboard, I suppose it depends on what ecu is in there already. Dont think there were any standard ecu's though that hit 1.5 bar. Think fuel cut is usually around about 17 psi so your above that. It is possible that you have a fuel cut defencer in there which removes or raises the fuel cut so if you have, you will probably be running a bit lean when on full 1.5bar boost. Are you monitoring the afr?

May be different type, but I imagine they are all wired the same or similar

mot is at idle and at 2000~3000rpm part throttle no load static test.. not at full throttle from 3000~7000rpm on load and 1.5bar of boost.

The emissions test wasnt nessecary for the MOT just out of curiosity, we did hold at about 5k to see what the fueling was like, but as you say its not under-load.

Even if the fuelling was OK what's to say it isn't running too much timing, I'd be getting the orange ear defenders out mate

I originaly used some mini Jubilee clips to secure the new hoses, I've just got a box of fuel line clips that apply even pressure and its now peaking at just over 1 bar, bloody jubilee's must have been leaking like a btich meaning not enough pressure was getting back to the actuator?

excellent.. yeah it would have been like a bleed valve is leaking from the actuator vac line.
