Default Water Temp problem??

I have reciently noticed that the water temp of my scoob is no longer building up quickly or even to the halfway area of the gauge.

Its really low and thats after driving for 35 miles.... if i drive hard then it practicaly looks like the temp is 0 deg.

water levels are spot on

Something cant be right!!!

Help

Could it be the gauge that's actually at fault here?
Have you checked the temp of the water after a drive by popping the bonet?

Do you get warm/hot air from your blowers? If so I would say your stat will be okay. If it is only slightly warm then check the stat. These cost less than £20. You can find it on the nearside of the engine block. Just follow the bottom radiator hose from the nearside and where that connects to is the thermostat housing. Think it is held on with 3 x 10mm bolts. I would also change these bolts at the same time as they have a tendancy to shear if they have been removed before. You dont need any gasket as well as there is a sealing ring around the stat

Thermostat or faulty temperature sender, as above check the heaters, if they are fine the temp sensor is between the turbo outlet and the inlet manifold, its a bitch to get to.

Temp sensor went faulty a few mths after i bought the car, it was a pig to change as you said.

I'm pretty sure it wont be that as the CEL came on when it went faulty and the car was a nightmare to start when cold as it obviously couldn't read a temperature for the engine.

Going to have a good look tomorrow but i've been advised to let the car idle and see whether the radiator pipes warm slowly or suddenly get hot. If the warm slowly then the thermo is stuck open, if they heat up rapidly within a few seconds then its a good indication that the thermo is working and has just opened to let all that hot water out the engine. Makes sence really so i'll see what happens and report back.

The pipes wont heat up rapidly within seconds. Let the car idle or go for a gentle drive for 10 mins to warm everything up, then feel the temps. Also check for warm/hot air thorugh the blowers this is a good indication.
