Default decat without remap???

hi all,

I'm driving a 1996 sti v3 at the mo it has a bigger bosch fuel pump, unequal length headers, decat mid section and a afterburner back box wanting to put a decat downpipe on it.
Some people have said not to make it a full decat until it is going to be maped and others have said they have driven there car with a full decat and not had a remap???

so Q is, is it or will it be safe to drive with a full decat without a remap?

thanks in advance.

I would be carefull with the early STI's, you could end up running lean
and melting a piston.

If you had said it was a wrx, I would of said no problem.

Sorry

I think if you ask the tuning companies, they'll advise a remap very soon after the decat DP mate. UK cars are one thing, Jap import Stis are another.

i did this to mine and ran it for a few weeks before my remap. Andy F told me not to hammer it especially in high gears running full boost as this can make it run lean (which is not good) get it remapped anyway as it makes a hell of a difference - better fuel consumption too - unless you have a heavy right foot

does this mean smaller the bhp and boost less chance of having problems?
i am about to decat mine aswell, but my situation is a little different. i have a 1.6 turbo running 150 bhp. now this is a high production car by subaru hellas, ( i am in greece) so it isn't my own effort of a convertion. it is basicly a 1.6 n/a with a garret turbo kit on it. it is running 0.3 bar. can i get away with fitting a wrx fuel pump? the petrol we use here is 100 octane, i have already fitted an after market 4'' back box and the car is a my01 bug eye. i have never mapped the car.
thanx in advance

With an uprated fuel pump and a fuel pressure regulator, you should be fine without a remap, but of course you will ultimately get more from the mods you've done to the car if you get it mapped to suit, and better fuel economy also.

I wouldn't replace the turbo for 300bhp..The Td04 is capable of this power level and will return much more torque lower down than any replacement you had in mind...I would recommend replacing the intercooler for a larger top mount , replacing the headers and decatting , fit a Walboro pump and the STi pink injectors...Then get yourself to your local Ecutek dealer and ask them for 1.2 bar boost...This will give you a similar performance level to this..
