Default IF i need a new turbo, what to do?

hi guys,

if pos could i get some quick advice,

basically i've got a 02 wrx with full de-cat an the car has been running fine for a while but last week it developed a loud noise from the engine an loss of turbo pressure and really poor drive, i thought it was an exhaust leak as the sensor in my uprated up pipe popped out before, but i took it to xtreme an it turned out that the gasket had on the top headers, so i drove off an everything seemed fine and then later that day i was driving an i realised i had no turbo pressure what so ever, the car sounded really quiet( decat an afterburner on so normally super loud)

i'm having xtreme check it out in the morning but if my turbo has gone what would my options be? i.e

cheapest?
insurance friendly upgrade?
most practical?for small amout of engine mods i've done.

any quick advice would be great,

cheers

nick

Wastegate. Maybe? Turbo runs but is venting through wastegate..Just an idea?

If you have had work done maybe the wastegate actuator hasnt been reconnected properley?

cheapest would no doubt be a second hand like for like replacement.
cheap upgrade? possibly VF35 from an sti8-can be had for £325.00 or so. I'll be advertising mine for around that when it comes off at the month end.
Bit more of a budget? Well I've just plummed for a TD05 18G from Andy Forrest which come highly regarded (but this was £850.00 plus vat)

With a bit of luck it will be something and nothing mate.

cheers RLE, i'm hoping its something really stupid an cheap, if it is then i think i'll be taking the plunge on a carbon bonnet, an 7" kenwood headunit.

the price of the vf35 seems quite good, when i was looking the do my engine upgrade all i want is to break 300bhp an for that i should only need one of those sti turbos a decent remap an a couple bits like fuel pump etc eh.

Certainly would break the 300 mark mate. With your decat and a panel filter coupled with the bits you mentioned and a decent map 300 certainly wouldn't be a problem.

Hope everything goes ok.

ended up having to get a new turbo, basically when the gasket on the up pipe broke up some small bits went through and damaged the turbo making it sieze up.

i was debating over getting a bigger turbo, but ended sticking with the TD04
