Default Rattling When Hot

Just had a call from my friend who has a 96 JDM WRX.

He's concerned about a rattling noise when his car gets hot (after travelling several miles).

I hav'nt heard it but will pop round to see him tommorrow.

Any ideas guys, he's refusing to drive it until he knows exactly what it is.

He said somebody says it could be a heat shield and that they split on the Impreza all the time.
Does this sound right?

Thanks guys

Heat shields certainly do go, either the one over the turbo or theres a few on the headers underneath the car.

There are heat sheilds every-bloody-where on the Impreza, they start rattling a treat as they get old, the ones on the manifold are easy to get to, the rest are a pain in the ****.

Try prodding them with a screw driver while someone gives the engine a little rev, if the noise goes away as you prod one, thats the one thats loose.
