Default maf worry?

my car (95 ra) has a hks induction kit on it (not for long!! piece of crap) i have noticed the green filter has not been sitting rite so removed it to adjust it. the wire mesh in the maf sensor looked very dirty and when i ran my finger over it it was like black soot. is this bad, will any damage have been done by this? thanks

ive had to get a new maf due to me using an induction kit, apparently the kit broke my maff (i was told) i also had the black soot. ive been told that the maff cant read the air/fuel ratio properly with an induction kit. im back to standard air box now with a new maff, much better. (my94 wrx)

The maf has no problem reading the a/f ratio, the thing that kills the maf sensors is vibration and oil deposits from induction filters. I have been running a properly secured non oiled induction kit for two years, with no problems.

By you running your finger over it? Probably.

Clean them very very carefully with a quick spray of carb cleaner to prolong them. This may not work.

i havent noticed any problems that would point to anything being wrong with it (yet) , i thought the maf sensor was behind the wire mesh or is that the sensor? surely running your finger over the mesh wont have done anything? if so then im
