Default Why do MAF's break so quick??

MY99 STI, new maf last october, engine went bang a few weeks later, car stored until mid april then rebuilt, and now, only a few weeks later im getting the maf sensor code (code 23) when checking for any error codes. Ive done an ecu reset but back it comes, ive not got any noticeable major problems linked with a failing maf and after having the boost re-connected last week im still running the engine in so not giving it W.O.T.

The new maf has only been 'working' on the car for roughly 6-7 weeks max in total, covering approx 1.5-2k miles, there were no fault codes last week, but why should the maf be coming up this week, surely its still in theory new-ish, are these parts covered under any sort of warrenty as its an OE subaru item and 6-7 weeks use out of a new maf at £100 a pop is surely a joke.

thats my rant over

Just curious to hear if you are running the standard air box or have you an induction kit fitted ? also has your filter been oiled or are you running it dry ?

Its the standard airbox with a dry Apexi panel filter. I could understand it could break with either induction kit or heavily oiled panel filter which is the reason Ive never had anything like that put on, and stuck with standard airbox with dry filters.

Are MAF sensors classed as a consumeable item, eg like brake pads or clutch etc, with regards to warrenty, in other words so there not covered under any warrenty?? Has anyone taken a failed MAF sensor back to the garage and had it replaced free under warrenty?

cheers
