Default Manifold spacers, what gains?

I understand that scoob manifold spacers are usually insulating materials to keep the intake manifold cooler, but what are the benefits, if any, of spacing the manifold further up without insulating?
A friend has a pair of 1" alloy spacers that I can have. What is the theory and result of adding length to the intake runners?
Thanks

i dont think theres any benefit in just adding length, the idea is to reduce the heat transfere to the manifold as you said.

lower temps = denser air charge = more boost, probably a crap hypothesis but hey ho

On the Phase 1's the turbo is 90 deg entry. Fitting the spacers usually allows the front entry pipework to run under what is lower than Phase 1.5/2 and hence fit a front entry turbo.

On later cars it may be for larger intakes and the heat.

Looks about right.

Lower temp = denser air charge = more power (not always more boost) at same boost.

The spacer will basically reclaim any lost BHP that occurs from the inlet charge getting heated up.

These have been available for sometime for the Civic Type-R and proved very successful on the Honda K20 engine, dramatically reducing the temp of the inlet manifold to the point where it could be touched even after a long drive without the risk of burning.

IMO, fitting this mod would be a very worthwhile invesment indeed. They should be relatively cheap but yet very effective.

Reclaim SOME of the BHP lost
