Hi All,

On my 2001 WRX i'm getting a strange "rattling / buzzing" noise when my turbo is just about to spool up.... usually when i'm at about 1800-2000 rpm's.

Its most noticeable when under load, ie in 4th or something and i accelerate, only lasts for about 2 seconds then as soon as my turbo spools the noise dissapears and the car feels fine......

Any idea's, could it be the wastegate or boost solenoid, anything i can take out / take a look at / clean to get an idea of whats going on??

have you checked your heatshield isnt rattling?

More than likely the boost solonoid, make sure the fittings are all tight and the rubber mountings are still in tact.

Andy - If it were the heatshield would this not be a common problem rather than only being there just as the turbo is spooling... ?

They tend to resonate at a certain RPM so it may coincide with spool up
