Remap or no remap?!?!
People on the boards are constantly saying you can't remap imprezas that are pre MY99 (or what ever the date is ;-) etc etc. I have a set up where I've taken a newer ecu with the spare IC socket had a chip fitted and a remap done. The whole lot cost £400 and its a MY93 import.
So why do people on here insist you need an Apexi or HKS ecu all the time when someone asks, "can I remap my uk spec 1996 turbo"? Yes, the expensive hks and apexi ecus are more versitile by far, but not really necessary to someone whos just spend £300 on a filter and decat.
Anyone explain?
A LOT of people have the scoobyecu, or the Vos chip, on there 1993 - 1996 Imprezas. This chip is often mapped specifically for the car.
So its not news to anyone that you can, in effect, map the 1993-1996 impreza by using a piggyback chip. The Scoobyecu used to be available for less than £100. Now it is rarely available except from a Mapper who will map it for your car and charge you for it, normally around £400.
The confusion lies in the fact that on some later cars (1998 onwards I think) you can remap the actual original ECU, which is not the same thing, although it has the same effect. To add to the confusion, some models (1997-1998 - I think) cannot be mapped in this way, nor can they accept the piggyback chip.
However, it is undisputed that the ApexiFC etc is the best value for money for mapping all imprezas as it can be adjusted so easily to cater for further engine mods etc.

Now thats exactlty what I was thinking. Cheers for such an educated answer mate
So to all of you that ask "Can I remap my 1993 - 1998 model year impreza" the answer is YES! And it only costs about £400 notes if you can get the chip and a good mapper... BARGAIN!!!
Right now thats off my chest I'm gonna annoy the wife.
