Question Up pipe - slip jointed or not

Anyone know what if any risks there are in having a solid up pipe (eg. magnex) as appose to a slip jointed (eg. H&S) or flexi (standard) pipe.

I have blown two standard flexi pipes now.

Will the vibration of the engine and a solid pipe create new problems?

I hear the H&S pipe leaks until it has warmed up as the inner pipe - smaller diameter has to expand to create a seal.

I suppose if this is true the expansion would mean the solid Magnex pipe might seal when cold but leak when the engine is at opperating temp?

I need to get it right as it is a big job getting to this pipe!

Thanks

I've got a scoobyworld (H&S iirc..?) slip jointed up-pipe (wrapped) and AFAIK never had any issues with it leaking when cold..

I have a H+S wrapped up pipe aswell and there are no issues with it. Technically you are correct in the fact that when cold it will leak, but this pipe gets hot very quickly and when you say leak it doesn't leak like a hole in the pipe. It just means there is a slight gap between the two halves. I was warned that when cold it might sound a little bit rougher due to this but I have never noticed anything. Can definately recommend one of these.

Question

And what of the solid pipes?

I note that Magnex and HKS make solid items.

I have used all three types, flexi blew, solid uppipe had problems with the gasket sealing,h+s slip jointed no problems at all + it allows a bit of engine movement without stressing other parts.

there are 2 types of magnex up pipes, the smaller one is slip jointed and the larger one isn't.

Ok so I will get the H&S slip jointed item.

Should I wrap it? And seeing as the downpipe will be off shall I give that a wrap as well? What was the spray people use to stop the fabric wrap soaking up water on a wet day - some kind of spray sealant.

Where can I get the wrap / spray?
