on a standard turbo, do they have boost gauges ?
if not, how do you know how much boost is running ?

when people say they are running no boost, is this they are just not going above, i dont know, 3000 revs to make the boost ?
how is the boost made ?

turbos are new to me, so feel free to dummy guide me, but ni **** takes lads

cheers.....

you can be off boost at pretty much any rpm.....its easy to demostrate if you have a guage fitted so you can see what your doing visually.

Generally you only make boost underload, so when i accelerate i make boost, then if i back off the throttle or remain at a constant, my display then shows i'm maintaining either negative boost or 0 boost.

It depends what context people say they are running offboost for as well.

i.e. they can be running off boost due to new mods and no remap for which they wont be going above 3-3.5k rpm

so boost happens around 3k+ ? but only if u full trhottle ? if you gain speed by just gradual acceleration thru the gears no boost ? a bit like wide open throttle NOS ?

From 3krpm onwards you will generate boost. Under acceleration weak or harsh you still will generate boost, when your at a constant throttle position the boost will then drop off to 0 or negative I have noticed.

What car do you own?

not from factory they wont. With a car of that mileage make sure you get a specialist to give it a once over to avoid financial ruin down the line though. Good luck

120k, Think very long and hard about this one. Could need a full rebuild across the board, so the base price needs to be very low..

Here's an idea. Look in the paper for any turbocharged car and take it for a test drive. Then you'll understand what a turbo feels like to drive.
