Help needed, engine starting issues.(Fueling ?)
Hi,
I bought a second hand engine for my 93 impreza, the engine i bought was also from a 93 Impreza.
The engine was suspect head gasket as it was getting hot.
so i fitted a new head set, and used my heads, and all my sensors. inlet mannifold and injectors etc. as my inlet has the 5th injector.
I fitted new timing belt etc etc.
since putting it back together it would not start, i eventually tow started, it, but it took 2 miles before she fired up, even then she would not rev above 3k.
i have since discovered, if i disconnect the two injectors on the passenger side, it will fire much better, and strat for a second.
I have a fmic, so if i remove my intercooler piping to the Throttle body, and spray some easy start in, with the two injectors disconnected, it will start up, i can then connect the two injectors, and it will run like this for around 3 mins before it stops, but it will not rev up properly. (Missing)
I have tried to replace the intercooler piping when its running, but it dies.
I was running a FSE pressure regulator, but have put the standard regulator back, as i thought it may be over fueling.
I have removed the plugs some 10 - 15 mins after the car had been turned over, and discovered the two plugs on the passenger side are Soaked. the drivers are not.
i have checked and i do get a spark from all 4 coil packs, although the passenger side is not as strong as the drvers side.
I have checked all the wiring and all seems good.
I have also done a compression test and all 4 cylinders have 135 PSI and do not drop in preassure.
not sure what to try next.
Derek

I thought timing at first, have checked all marks are spot on, and as for the coil packs, the wiring has some white tape for the front coil packs and front injectors, Also the wiring for the coil packs, one wire is longer than the other, so they can only be connected 1 way without streatching the wires.
However, i have also confirmed the wire colours on my neighbours car, and they are right.
If i swap the coil packs on 1 bank, by streatching the wires, it just pops and bangs. which is defiantly wrong timing. so they have to be right.
I have taken some pics of the timing marks, the crank one i have had to highlight with a mark as it is not clear in the pics.

have you tried doing an ecu check just to rule out something minor etc?
Also swap the coil packs over, 1 side to the other like for like (think you can do this, I know one lead is shorter than the other but I imagine it is interchangeable one side to the other)

I have tried a ecu check, no codes, also a reset. but i have an Apexi ECU, have also tried std one to no avail.

Hi,
I stripped the wiring, and checked every wire, all is ok. I also done a continuity test on all of the wires, again all is well.
I got the car running as i said, but to do so i have to disconnect the two injectors on the passenger side, then remove the intercooler pipe.
it starts connect up the injectors, then replace the intercooler pipe.
here is a small video clip of it running after i done this.

Just been reading another post regarding temp sensors, after reading your post it reminded me that when mine finally gave up, it would not start or would run really lumpy, till it gave up.....
have you tried someone elses in there just to check.....

I got two new temp sensors from GGR in Jan as my temp Gauge did not work, it turned out to be the clocks, changed them and it fiexd it.
However, when i was checking the wiring, i discovered that the temp wire for ecu (Two Wires) were only holding on with a couple of strands, i stripped them back and repaired them. maybee i have got the two wires around the wrong way.
but it does not explain why it will fire and start with the two injectors disconnected.

Hi simon,
the heads, cams and cam wheels are all off mine.
I have checked the toothed crank pulley and all the timing lobes seem to be in the same place.
btw, with a reset the apexi starts Pauls car, he will not drive it with the apexi on, incase it fails and blows his car up.
