Not as loud as his ninja but i've just had a full decat H&S fitted and it makes all the right noises trust me! I'd say its a 7 out of 10 on the loudness scale It puts out a throaty burble at low revs and gets nice and loud when you give it some beans!

Is he looking for something really loud?

Well that'll be me your talking about. Thanks for the post Frank ( damm I hate night shifts sometimes ). I've got a Revolution centre and backbox and want something louder-so hopefully me and Si will be able to sort something out . I know it won't be as loud as my old Ninja exhaust on my saloon but beggers can't be choser's ( spelt something like that ). Si PM sent this morning fella .

Cheers Paul.

If its a full system with the Jap style back box, I think you'll find its louder than the Ninja!!

I have a Jap style H&S and I think mine is louder than another Impreza in the area that has a Ninja.

You could always get a bung for it. I have a bung for mine and when fitted is quieter than my old miltek box which was very quiet.

Hi Frank.

Just adding my little bit. I've got a H&S de-cat centre section and original design back box, on my MY00 UK Turbo. The back box was fitted first and the volume was just right -- enough so you can appreciate the unequal headers singing but not annoying while cruising. The de-cat section was fitted some time afterwards and has made the note a bit deeper and slightly louder, but it's still okay in my book.

I find myself driving around with the rear windows down 1 inch which means my head-unit's being wasted. With the windows up though I can still hear the system but it's not too intrusive, i.e. not annoying.

Thing is though, I know that H&S make a couple of variations and I believe the original back box design is somewhat 'conservative' perhaps..? Your friend may find his potential system is a lot louder.

Perhaps some photos and a bit more homework might be good before buying..?

Jonts.

Thanks for your useful comment mate. I've got a Revolution de-cat centre and backbox at the moment and all being well could be doing a straight swap with JollyGreenMonster. He's got a H&S de-cat centre and backbox . I miss my Ninja I had on my saloon . Anyone want to swap me for a Ninja they don't like because it's too loud for them .

Cheers Paul.

i had a ninja system on my new age and cant believe people think that its a loud system, i think its around the 5 mark on a 1-10 scale. perhaps exhaust notes are different on newage to classics or its my ears.
(when i took the system off and replaced it with the standard one i couldnt tell if the car was running or not...... its horrible )

I had a H&S decat centre and D/P and Prodrive BB and thought that was loud!

A friend had a Blitz Nur Spec R system and decat D/P and had to sell the Spec R as it was too loud for him .... now has a Ninja and says it is a lot better.

I now have a Jap style H&S BB and the difference over the Prodrive one is huge (bung is on its way!!).

Ive also heard a Nur Spec R (although with std. D/P) and the H&S is louder .... surprisingly!!

Does look the bo**ox though!!

The std H&S 3.5" backbox is pretty quite. I have one with a TSL decat downpipe and TSL decat centre and it's fine on motorway journeys or pootling around town. Nice deep burble and doesn't bother the girlfriend or my Mum

I'm looking at doing something similar on a WRX03. I'm looking at changing the cat pipe and centre section for the H&S versions and use my current PPP backbox leaving the downpipe cat in situ so it will still pass MOT. Anyone comment on how loud might be inside the cabin?

Andy.

Get it sound tested track side for a definate answer. normally 101db is the max sound limit. Fot the street it doesn't matter unless it bothers you. Mine is 103 and it doesn't bother me at all

Can you give us the DB limit for the street then???

...The police probably did your mate purely because he was driving a ***** little corsa, lol

My classic - H&S Turbo back - OE Manifold showed 94 dB on a race track at full throttle.

An other classic with Blitz showed 95 dB, but I am not sure about manifold on that car.

Not to be to technical - the mesurement point were about 10 m away from the passing cars so 1 dB here is quite a bit!
