Default Bleading the water system :)

Can anyone give me some tips on bleading out the air in the water system in my Legacy 2.5 ??

I have done it twice now but its still not right! Basically i can drive the car for hours but then when i come into town and drive slowly the temp gague goes right up untill i rev the car for a couple of seconds and then it goes right back to normal!

I was sure that when i reved it in traffic today i could hear water swishing behind the dash hence i think i have an air trap.

Any help would be appreciated

it took me ages to bleed the air out of my impreza, i just kept it running with the rad cap off and kept squashing the bottom hose to get the air out. its also better to fill the rad up through the top hose first. hope this helps

park it up on the kerb or jack the side with the filler higher up you want to be bleeding the air out of the highest point in the system and as said keep squeezing the hoses to move any traped air allso make sure youv got your heater set to hot

Right i have had the car up in the air, blead the system again and still no luck.
I can drive it round town, on the motorway, anywhere but one in 10 times the gague will start to climb untill i rev it... it will then make a sound like my washing machine and the temp gague will return to normal

Anyone got any other ideas?

In all my years of working on cars, I have never managed to get an air lock and I'm facinated as to how people achieve this?

How did you fill the system?? i.e. did you pour straight into the expansion tank or the reserviour in the wing?

I always put a little in the expansion tank, let it settle into the system, then start the engine and fill it gradually so an air lock doesnt occour infront of the water that is being poured in..

Sounds more like your water pump is siezing up.. can you smell rubber burning? The pump has no teeth, it runs off the flat side of the cambelt, if it gets stuck the belt will just slip over the drive wheel.

My money would be on the waterpump or a faulty thermostat.. Whip the cam cover off on the passenger side and have a look what its doing, you should just about be able to see the water pump.

Where did you get the car from, not a bloke in High Wycombe by anychance?

If its headgasket you wouldnt expect the temperature to level out again.. Can you see any bubbles in the header tank?

You will get some water flow into the header tank from the turbo (the outlet is connected to the top of the header) and this can look like bubbling.. so its difficult to check..
